Reflecting on ‘Ayna’: The Power of Seeing Ourselves Clearly

Have you ever stood in front of a mirror and paused, not to check your appearance but to truly look at yourself and ask: How am I, really?

The name of my practice, Ayna Therapies is rooted in the Turkish word Ayna, which means “Mirror”. It is a symbol I chose carefully, because it reflects one of the most powerful experiences therapy has to offer, the chance to see ourselves with clarity, with compassion, honesty and curiosity.

Why a Mirror?

Mirrors do not lie; they do not judge either. They simply show us what is there, in that moment. Even the parts we might typically avoid. In therapy, I offer a similar kind of space; one where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and patterns without the fear of criticism. My role is not to tell you who you are, but to help you see who you are and who you can become.

The Courage to Look Inward

Sometimes we avoid looking too closely because we are afraid of what we might find. Where there may be unresolved grief, anxiety, shame or that little voice in our head that whispers “not good enough”, these are the exact places where healing can begin. Therapy invites you to explore and hold these parts of yourself.

Together we can be curious and discover:

  • What are you carrying that no longer serves you?

  • Are there any beliefs about yourself that could be worth revising?

  • What kind change you have been wanting yourself.

These questions do not have a simple and easy answer, but they are not meant to be easy or answered alone.

A Place to Be Seen

As human we seek to be recognised, to be seen by others and also ourselves. Therapy offers a relationship where you can bring yourself in your entirety to the room. In this room your experiences are honoured, your emotions are welcomes and your voice will be heard.

It is not always comfortable, but it can be deeply freeing. Over time what once felt blurred, overwhelming or too much can start to make sense. The mirror becomes less about judgment and focused on recognition. The recognition of your resilience, your needs and your right to live fully.

Your Reflection, Your Journey

If you are feeling stuck, disconnected or unsure of your next step, perhaps now is the time to take a deeper look inwardly. No with blame or pressure, but with genuine desire and care.

At Ayna Therapies, I offer a warm, inclusive space for people form all walks of life, including those navigating questions of identity, culture, Deafness and belonging. You do not need to figure it all out; you just need to be willing to start.

If you would like step onto this journey of self-discovery and healing, I invite you to book a 15-minute discovery call (click here). Let’s see if we are a good fit and how therapy could support you in moving forward.
